Lawn and Garden Area Calculator
Grass seed, fertilizer, sod and topsoil are all sold by how many square feet they cover, so almost every lawn project starts with one question: how big is your lawn? That’s easy to answer for a perfect rectangle, but most lawns aren’t one. This calculator does the math for you. Pick the shape closest to your lawn, take a few measurements with a tape measure, and it gives you the area in square feet, plus a figure you can use directly with the per-1,000 sq ft rates on seed and fertilizer labels.
It works just as well for garden beds and mulched areas. You can also subtract a patio, shed or flower bed, so you only buy for the ground you’ll actually cover. If your lawn doesn’t match any of the shapes, the odd or curvy shape option uses an old landscaper’s trick to give you a close estimate.
